High quality greeting card of the Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall in Bradwell-on-Sea, on Essex's Dengie peninsula. The oldest church in England, St Peter-on-the-Wall was reputedly built by St Cedd in 654 AD, atop the site of a disused Roman fort. The chapel remained in operation for almost a thousand years, before being converted to a barn - however, it is now once again a functioning church, having been restored and reconsecrated in 1920.

The village of Bradwell-on-Sea itself is similarly ancient, occupying the site of a Roman fort known originally as Othona, and later as Ithancester. During the Second World War, the Royal Air Force operated from nearby RAF Bradwell Bay. Today, Bradwell-on-Sea is perhaps best known for Bradwell nuclear power station, which operated from 1962 to 2002.
