High quality art print of Rayleigh in the Rochford district of Essex. Established as a village in Anglo-Saxon times, Rayleigh was the site of an early Norman castle in the 12th century. Little now remains of the town's medieval history; none of the castle's structure remains, but the motte upon which it is built - now known as Rayleigh Mount - is a significant landmark. The town has a population of just over 30,000, and is connected to London and Southend by rail.

Depicted in this illustration is Rayleigh Windmill. A grade II listed tower mill, Rayleigh Windmill was built in 1809, and remained in operation under sail power until 1909, and further with steam, oil, and electric engines into the 1930s. Since 1970, Rayleigh Windmill has been home to a museum, and underwent £340,000 of restoration work 2005.
